Lithuanian forests

• Owners. Roughly 50 % of Lithuanian forest are owned by state company , rest 42 % (924’000 ha) belongs to private owners. Average typical private forest estate is 3,5 ha. Consolidation of private forests is going on, but still there are place for new players in the market. Top 50 owners still hown only 16% whole private sector. Bigger than 500 ha forest estates have only 58 companies or private persons.

• Legal basis. The law allows the accumulation of up to 1,500 hectares of forest land per one owner, Also by law is limited the minimum age of clear cutting loggins. Intermediate loggins are carried out according to the actual forest density. All forests are divided into groups that provide foresting actions. For egzample , in biggest IV group (commercial forest) clear cut logging minmal age is 61y for birch, 71 y fire, , 101y for pine. Lithuania is a member of EU and NATO. EU fundation donates young forests thining cutings ( 8-20 y), there several other support programs too.
• Volumes. Average acumulated wood capacity in matured forest:
  Pine ( picea abies) , 100 year - 386 m³/ha
  Spurce ( pinus sylvestris), 70 years - 471 m³/ha
  Birch ( betula pendula) , 60 years - 341 m³/ha
